Colombian artist Fernando Botero's painting "A Family" sold for nearly $1.4 million during a New York City auction of Latin American masterpieces.
The 1972 painting depicts Botero's famous corpulent silhouettes of a family posing in front of colorful trees. It was the most expensive piece of his 19-work collection, with an estimated presale price of $1 million to $1.5 million.
His most expensive paintings, "The Musicians" and "Four Musicians," were sold in 2006 for a little more than $2 million each.
Botero's sculpture "Man on a Horse" marked a record sale price for the artist for a bronze piece, reaching $1.1 million at Wednesday's auction.
