A disciplinary board from the Supreme Judicial Council suspended a Cali judge for delaying the start of a manslaughter trial for over five years.
Judge Víctor Flover Ortiz Mongui was suspended for 30 days without pay on Monday for delaying the criminal proceedings.
According to the board members, the delay in the case allowed William Eduardo Gallo Gil, the man accused of manslaughter, to go free without having to prove his innocence.
"The delay conducting the public hearing (...) violates two of the most important principles of the administration of justice, speed and efficiency, without adequately justifying the defendant's negligent act," said Ovidio Claros Polanco, a representative from the board.
