Chavez in 'high spirits' after chemo treatment

CARACAS, Venezuela (AFP) — Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said yesterday he was in high spirits following fresh medical exams ahead of a second round of chemotherapy in Cuba.

"Everything went well and here I am," Chavez said on Venezuelan state TV, following a series of blood, organ and cardiac tests.

"I'm gaining weight, muscle mass and my spirit is unbeatable," he said.

"Thanks to God, to the Virgin (Mary), and to the spirit of the savanna and the infinite will to live, all of my organs are functioning well," added Chavez, who has described himself as a fervent Catholic.
