Inflation
The National Statistics Institute (INE) reported that the average cost of the standard food basket was VEB 1,576.11 (USD 366.54 at the official exchange rate of VEB 4.3 per US dollar), a 3.81 percent hike compared to June.
The items that showed the highest increases were tomatoes (57.52 percent), watermelon (37.4 percent), sweet pepper (29.87 percent) and carrot (17.73 percent). Significant declines reported by the INE included arracacha (-5.35 percent), followed by fresh sardines (-3.52 percent), pineapple (-2.42 percent), rice (-2.21 percent) and beans (-1.44 percent).
