I was originally pessimistic about Barack Obama's chances next Fall but I am buoyed by the prospect that his opponent will be chosen from a cast of clowns.
I have done a one hundred eighty on my thinking. This election is his to lose.

In all seriousness though, I think it's going to be a really tough campaign because of the individual state "Jim Crow" laws, Turd Blossom/Koch money laundering and the shitty economy. Still, running against a robotic flip flopper or an outright lunatic will be most helpful.

Conventional wisdom suggests an incumbent ends up with a percentage of the pop vote roughly equivalent to his approval rating. President Obama needs to keep his approval ratings in the high forties. There will be some voters who don't approve of Obama but will be scared to death to hand the White House over to any of the Republican "comics" currently running for president.
Again. I didn't think this way up until a couple of weeks ago.
