Ever hear the old cliche, "If you are so smart, why aren't you rich?" Even back in days before the Grand Old Party was taken over by a cult of extremist kooks, a central but usually unspoken theme of even liberal Republicans was, "Hooray for the rich!!"

I suspect the prevalence of a lax lax attitude about sexual harassment is partly about political convenience - they were not so understanding when Bill Clinton or Anthony Weiner were being accused. But another part of this attitude goes back to notion as old as the wind that boys are expected to sow their wild oats and girls are expected to be virgins. That notion is so deeply ingrained into the psyche of a significant percentage of the population that a lot of people have never seriously stopped and questioned it - boys will be boys.

Another old cliche that probably that probably sums up their attitude is, "A woman is only as good as her man and a man is only as good as his job." A women's worth is judged by the man she is married to and a man's worth is judged by his economic success.
