Honestly just my own anecdotal evidence is that I know about 5 people who switched from Democratic registration to independent (myself being one of them). That may mean nothing to the larger picture but I also don't know anyone rushing out to sign up with the Democrats who wasn't already affilliated.

4. Obama disaffection syndrome

With the full-throated right wing assault on Obama, some people are hesitant to vocally support Obama or the Dems...hence when forced to "declare", they cop out....but it doesn't mean the Repubs will profit by it in the solitude of the voting booth.

5. I know two people who changed from dem

to repub for one, indie for the other. Its someone in my family and they are making more money and surrounded for many years by republicans and I think they just finally caved to peer pressure.
