Sign of the times - the Tea Party lost big in the town elections yesterday. |
|
Our town is an Upstate New York Republican stronghold. You don't win unless you are on the Republican line. The local Tea Party group got most of its nominees on the Republican ballot and put up write-in candidates where it didn't. The people chose the non -Tea Party candidates.

1. I'll bet they're really surprised! |

The tea-partiers, I mean.
Did the Democrats win, or did the non-Tea partiers win?

3. Democrats haven't won here in years, if ever. What I'm seeing is |
|
a return to a more reasonable type of Republican.

Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania is now COMPLETELY under Republican rule. Thank Dickie Scaife and his Republican rag newspaper monopoly. It's all the elderly population here have to read.
Very sad.

4. Yes, Richard Mellon Scaife is a douchbag. |
|
I live near Westmoreland County and his newspapers are just as bad as watching Fox News. Here are some of the headlines today about the election. "GOP storms Westmoreland Courthouse" and "Voters shake up row offices, toss Democrats". But Rich Fitzgerald won the county executive election by 25% over republican Raja and here's the headline, "Democrat Fitzgerald tops Raja in Allegheny County executive race".

I've worked on phone banks where the voters will say, "Oh, I'm going to wait until I see who the newspaper endorses".
Well, we know who Scaife's ragpapers are going to endorse. He owns all of the papers in Westmoreland, Armstrong Counties...and some of the other counties, too.
It makes me sick.
Our Democratic leaders need to pay attention here!

9. I remember a story in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette |
|
that said during the election of 2000 that Scaife didn't allow any photos of Al Gore on the front page of any of his newspapers unless it was negative. Do you also remember when Scaife personally sent a reporter up to the Allegheny National Forest because he was convinced that there were Russian troops deployed there and getting ready to invade? That was during the Clinton years. I still have that article.
