Newt takes the public out of public parks while slamming OWS

“All the Occupy movements start with a premise that we all owe them everything,” Gingrich said in responding to a question about his view of freedom, responsibility and morality.

He said the anti-Wall Street movement uses public parks and other services they don’t pay for and obstruct working people “so they can self-righteously explain that they are the paragons of virtue to which we owe everything.”

He continued: “Now that is a pretty good symptom of how much the left has collapsed as a moral system in this country and why you need to reassert something as simple as saying to them:‘Go get a job, right after you take a bath.‘

10. I thought Zucotti was a public park

Privately built and maintained on condition that it be made available to the public at the demand of the city. I believe its status as a privately maintained public park was a condition imposed by the city in exchange for the private owner having the privilege of being able to have the zoning laws waived concerning the height of a structure they wanted to build. Waiver of the zoning laws is a form of payment by the public. But I may be mistaken. I heard that explanation of its public legal status from Amy Goodman's show.

Our beloved mayor has for years turned parks like Union Square, Madison Square and Bryant Park into places for fashion shows and strip malls. One can't enjoy historic New York City parks because sales kiosks take up much of the space. I suspect the reason Bloomberg wants Liberty Square is so Wall Street can set up tents to sell derivatives to tourists directly for cash.
