    | The WHY - Why the rise of Newt? |

    | |
They are dragging themselves away from Romney by their own fingernails.
They can't help it. The are still the party of the South. All of its power and most its money comes from there. Newt is the only Southern White Male left in race.

    | 11. PA is Pitt to the west, Philly to the east, and ALABAMA in the middle. |

    | | Paul's brand of crazy is very different than the Dixiecrat version. So he's out.
Perry's brand of crazy is similar to the Dixiecrat version, but he was willing to let the kids of illegals go to school, so he's a dead man walking.

Romney is hated by the Dixiecrat wing of the GOP.

Bachmann is a woman ... and so can't be the President of Dixieland.

 Cain ... never.

Leaves Newt and Santorum. And Newt has better Dixiecrat cred, and much strong name recognition. The adultery could hurt him. But not so long as he apologized to God (not the ex-wives) sufficiently.

Basically Newt's is currently seen as the last man standing.

Bottom line ... the Dixiecrats are desperate.

    | 12. the two electable candidates are the two Mormons who are also the two |

    | | Edited on Tue Nov-22-11 08:36 AM by Douglas Carpenter moderately sounding ones. - The current Republican Party cannot handle a leader who has the sound of relative moderation. As far as the Republican Party base is concerned they lost in 2008 because McCain was too liberal. Bachmann, Perry, Cain and Santorum pass the test of sounding crazy - but they are also lose cannons who don't know very much. Gingrich also sounds crazy but he is considered to be quite intelligent. Unlike the other candidates he is already a known quantity. I doubt he can say anything that will disappoint the GOP base. They already know him and they know what to expect. There are no scandals or revelations that are suddenly going to upset them. They've already heard about those things years ago.
So basically he passes the first test of being crazy. He passes the second test of being an extremist ideologue. He is believed to be knowledgeable and intelligent. He is wildly popular with the lunatics on Fox News and right-wing hate radio. They think that his experience makes him electable. I think there is very good chance he will be the nominee. Unlike Romney, I do not think the has a very plausible chance of beating Obama in a national election in spite of a bad economy. He is simply too offensive and unlikable. Most people do think he is bad person and an extremist.
