A different type of Democratic Party might be better? |
|
We really do not need more trade treaties at this time. We need Democrats that can stand up and say that "Made in America" is good. They don't say it with a nationalistic, flag-waving notion but with the meaning that we need to keep jobs in America. This is a message that is popular with Americans across the board. It is a political winner!
We need Democrats that can jump in the shit of those corporations that take jobs overseas and hide their ill-gotten gains in the Cayman Islands and Swiss bank accounts. Those are not patriotic Americans. We need a Party that can stand up for working people once again.
We need Democrats that can say with a straight face that we need to get corporate money out of our politics. We do not need to get in a race to see which Party can raise the most money, in order to win elections. That is a fraudulent election on its face.
Look around you. Look at what is happening. Can you not see the bind that we are in as a political Party? Can you not see why we are in this bind? Where we cannot talk about issues that win elections because we are just like them. We have hand-cuffed ourselves to losing issues. Why? And why do some people continue to defend these issues? Isn't it about time we face reality?

1. I will take the Party of Harry Truman (sans the atom bomb and Korean War) ANY day. |

The DLCNC, not so much.
I so agree with you on this, kentuck!
We handcuffed ourselves to the wrong issues and the wrong contituency because politicians of both major parties think that money is the only thing that wins elections. Also, because the lobbyists are taking good care of them and their families between elections.
And, after they lose an election, or drop out of politics because their polls tell them they will lose, they get very well paying jobs by becomong lobbyists themselves.
There is supposed to be a waiting period before they do that, but, apparently, former Senators can ignore that, along with tax laws and still get considered for a cabinet position. Just ask Tom Daschle. After all, isn't that what being well-connected means?
If Senator Sanders looks for a job when his political career ends, will the 99% offer him one? After all, he has been representing them better than any other modern era Senator.
Even nader has given up on the lobbyist issue, suggesting that citizens hire their own lobbying firm.
And, some blame does go to us because we have stood for it for so long.

2. Well said and so true. |

And don't get me started on the education mess both parties have given us. Billionaires are buying up our public education system at an alarming pace, and Arne Duncan is still the golden boy. And those of us who have spoken out are the ones made to feel uncomfortable.
