My latest beef with This Week with George Steph. |
|
You will have to excuse me because, aside from George Will, I don't remember who said what. I just remember the gist of what was said, though not the exact words.
Someone on This Week:
"What if Romney wins the electoral vote, but not the popular vote?"
Not surprisingly, George Will did not see this as a potential problem.
He said we have had a total of 57(?) elections and, of all the elections we have ever had, only 4 suffered that fate--and he ticked them off. To his credit, he correctly identified 2000 as an election in which Gore won the popular vote (though that means that Bush won neither the popular vote nor the electoral vote, but, again, not surprising, Will did not mention that detail).
Someone on This Week:
"But, George, I think the election of 2000 did a lot of damage to this country. It's why we have what I call a Cold Civil War."
Huh?
Yes, perhaps the election of 2000 did a lot of damage to this country.
But we have a Cold Civil War because the Republicans decided to have one.
That is not the fault of the election of 2000. Had the Cold Civil War been the result of the 2000 election, it would have been the Democrats stonewalling Bush and the Republicans 100% of the time.
If Reed gets control of the Senate in January and AGAIN fails to repeal the 60 vote rule at the start of the session, he should be tarred and feathered--by Democratic voters!

The Republicans employed every dirty trick and outright election fraud to "win" the elections in 2,000 and 2,004. They did not actually win either election. They were awarded the office of the presidency.
I'm sure you remember when the brown shirts attacked the board of election in Florida to prevent a recount.
I expect them to do the same this time around.
Nothing Stephanopoulos or George Will says should be taken seriously. They play for the same team. And it ain't our team.
You are right on on the cold civil war thing. We have a cold civil war now because we elected a ni**er and because "the right" is not civil. They "allowed" Obama to win so they could use him for a George Bush scape goat. They didn't even swift boat Obama in 2008. That should be seen as significant.

2. Not sure what you mean by a George Bush scapegoat. |
|
Do you mean that "they" let Obama win so they could blame Obama (or some Democrat or some African American Democrat) for the results of what George Bush did?

And they have done an excellent job of moving the blame to the President. I know a majority of Americans, according to the polls, still blame Bush for the economy but the numbers for blaming Obama grow every day. No one should blame Obama for the poor state of the economy. I know I have been critical of the President, but I have never blamed the President for the state of the economy.

that he inherited.
But, I think his recovery attempts could have been better. He had FDR's model to follow and chose to go Reagan trickle down instead.
