Marty Walsh is taking the oath of office today, having narrowly missed taking over in the midst of a large snowstorm (as did DeBlasio in NYC a few days ago).
On a news show yesterday, Walsh mentioned his vote in favor of charter schools (although he was not as big an advocate of charter schools as was his opponent, Connolly) and also mentioned that he would not be making any efforts to close the gap between the city's rich and poor, as DeBlasio has mentioned.
Meanwhile. Mayor Menino, who has been in office for 20 years will not be attending the swearing in, though he and Walsh both deny this is a slight. Menino said, "It's Mayor Walsh's day, not Mayor Menino's day."
Seems like quite an intentional slight to me, but what do I know?
The story is that Menino will be traveling, a trip he planned a while back. If so, that means that Menino wanted to be absent from the swearing in no matter who won the election, Walsh or Connolly.
I still think it's a slight.
Then again, maybe Menino is prescient. Bloomberg showed up at DeBlasio's swearing in and reports are that speakers blasted him.

2. That's what I heard--a lot of critiism of Bloomberg's tenure at DeBlasion's swearing in. |

Sadly, at Walsh's swearing in, a kid's choir from the Renaissance Charter "Public" School sang.
Kids: adorable. Charter schools: not adorable.
