Reid open to cuts to pay for an extension of unemployment benefits, but not Obamacare. |
|
Why is paying for unemployment via cuts a requirement now, when it has not been a requirement under other Republican or Democratic Presidents? Story here http://www.upi.com/Top_News/US/2014/01/07/Top-Democrat-says-Republicans-should-find-cuts-for-jobless-benefits/UPI-98051389072600/?spt=hts&or=1

1. I think Reid gave the right response. |

Let those Republican MFers come up with the cuts they would make. It's only a requirement now because the entire media is pushing the deficit/austerity narrative. Things have changed. There is no wiggle room in the media now.

2. The media is not the only one pushing it. |

Remember, Obama entered office in January 2009, as a Democratic President, pledging entitlement reform. And he has been striving for a Grand Bargain ever since.
Yes, lately, he has been paying lip service to income inequality--after a number of cuts to the social safety nets, like fuel assistance, SNAP (food stamps), etc. Not to mention years of sequester, a proposal made by the White House, namely Sperling.
And, Obama most recent "offer to Republicans" is to cut corporate income taxes, also a Sperling brainchild.
And what about push back by Democrats against the austerity agenda? AWOL at best.
