Poll question: Should treason be a crime? |
|
Edited on Wed Apr-27-11 01:54 AM by Paradoxical
"Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court."
I really don't think it should be. But I want to be a bit more specific. I think the act of violence should be illegal. But the concept of treason being a violent or damaging act against the state, by a citizen, should not be illegal. The definition of treason seems too broad for me to comfortably support.

Treason can be too broadly defined IMO.
It's possible to technically commit treason, but also expose US war crimes and corruption. In those circumstances, it should not be considered a crime and the person exposing war crimes should be commended.
We need a more narrow definition of treason.
