Strict measures were imposed at Asian airports during the last outbreak
SINGAPORE -- Initial tests show a local patient has tested positive for severe acute respiratory syndrome, or SARS, Singapore health officials say.
One man, of ethnic Chinese origin, tested positive in initials tests, indicating SARS infection, Singapore's Ministry of Health said Monday. Further tests are taking place, the spokeswoman added.
The spokeswoman told Reuters the man had been picked up by surveillance at Singapore General Hospital, and had been isolated at a hospital.
Singapore's last reported case of the deadly respiratory illness occurred in early May.
The city-state has been on alert against a possible second outbreak of SARS, which killed 33 people and affected 328 there earlier this year.
