U.S. August retail sales up 0.6% vs 1.5 forecast By Corbett B. Daly
WASHINGTON (CBS.MW) - U.S. consumers opened their wallets at a slower than expected pace in August, driving up retail sales in the month by 0.6 percent on purchases of autos, gasoline, electronics and household goods, the Commerce Department said Friday. Auto sales in August rose 0.5 percent. Excluding autos, retail sales rose 0.7 percent.
