US and Iraqi forces have stepped up operations in the city of Samarra, after reports that top militant al-Zarqawi might be hiding there.

All entrances leading to Samarra were sealed during the searches.
A bounty of USD 25 M has been put on the head of Abu Musab al-Zarwaqi, making him Iraq's most wanted militant. <snip>

The US intelligence believes that he allied with al-Qaeda last year.
