Rice is a very ambitious person, and I see no reason why she would not run. She will base her campaign on national security/foreign policy, so to beat her we either need to make domestic policy a bigger issue, tear her apart on her ineptitude post-9/11, or both.
The only potential candidate I see who could tear Rice apart on foreign policy/national security with enough credibility is Clark. Overall, red-state voters who are not blue already would also be more comfortable considering Clark than Hillary if Rice made them uncomfortable.
Hillary will run because it is her only chance, as she too is a very ambitious person. If Hillary hypothetically accepted the VP slot she would be in her 70s by the time she could potentially become president herself. So it's 08' or never for Hillary, and she's not going to let the chance pass her by.
I think the dem nomination in 08' is going to be fought out between Edwards, Kerry, Clinton, and Clark. However, one of the governors may also emerge as a front-runner. Just my opinion. I think I Clark/Hillary or Clark/Edwards ticket would be so dynamic it would be almost impossible to beat.
