ALLOWED the information out. HIPAA is pretty clear, the hospital cannot release details about this patients condition without the patient, or the patient's legal guardian(s), giving permission to do so.
So even though I agree with you on the privacy of this tragedy, the parents must have wanted it to be public. Maybe they have been told what hospital policy is on this, and are waiting for a Delay intervention.
Whatever the reason, this is horrible for any parent. Mercy would be to give the parents and family time to say goodbye.
