Well, perhaps - I do feel sorry for her. But she is no different than any other "battered" wife. She's actually a classic example. Kept pyschologically downtrodden by a domineering, manipulative man. She's known for years about his philandering, groping, sexist way, but she made a decision to stay with him - for watever the reasons. Religion, the kids - whatever. She certainly did not have to stay, if she didn't want to. Obviously she wants to stay. So poor Maria, indeed. Her choice, her decision. She made her bed (so to speak) and now has to lie in it. One wonders just what would it take for her to admit she wanted out?
