Veteran UK broadcaster David Frost is to join Aljazeera International, the Qatar based broadcaster's new English language channel to be launched next spring.

Frost stated: "This is a great adventure - the first and perhaps the only brand-new international TV network for the 21st century. While our target is still Britain and America, the excitement is that it is also the six billion other inhabitants of the Globe."

(go to "Culture" section for article)

For you younger DUers, Frost is IMHO the most prestigious English language newsman/commentator still working today - analagous to Walter Cronkite in the amount of credibility and respect he is given. He is the only person to have interviewed the last seven presidents of the US and the last six prime ministers of the UK. His background knowledge and experience greatly inform his work.

His post Watergate interviews with Richard Nixon were much acclaiimed and achieved the largest audience for a news interview in history.

The article also mentions that Al Jazeera is greatly expanding its
presence in Japan. I wonder how difficult the Bushistas will make it for American cable to carry this channel.
