40. Yup, tell me why Rove was on strike during Katrina, leaving Bush Jr....
...hanging out there on his own, eating cake and doing other silly things, while thousands of Americans were dying, and a big chunk of the country was getting blown off the map?

And tell me why Cheney was also AWOL (except for ordering ground crews to restore power to the Texas-to-northeast pipeline instead of rural hospitals, one of which was already on generators)...until the first billions of that Katrina loot started flowing without bids and without performance standards to Halliburton and Co.?

...and also, until Bush Jr. had personally gone down to LA and tried to strongarm Blanco into giving all control to the WH (Cheney)...

I think Rove and Cheney were blackmailing Bush Jr. (That's maybe why Daddy Bush and Clinton came out and stood behind him.) I was thinking it was a threatened coup. But now I think it was just (!) blackmail. Rove withheld his P.R. services (and possibly even sabotaged Bush Jr., P.R.-wise) probably in exchange for a signed pardon, or a big payoff. Control of Gulf coast loot was Cheney's price for not ratting on Bush Jr. on Treasongate. (And he already had a pardon, signed way back, with spaces left blank for assorted felonies; what he wanted now was more loot, to pad his security for the aftermath.)

Rove put out a medical cover story, too--his kidneystone problem--to explain (after the fact) his disappearance during Katrina. He may also have got in on the Katrina loot/Treasongate blackmail (news story that he was put in charge of doling it out to their buds).

But I think they were working at odds (Rove, Cheney), and that we were looking at a house very divided. Very wobbly. A bit stabler now. Some deals made. Who's going to take the fall? Libby? Maybe Cheney himself (age, illness, cane, vast power to fend off jail).

You see, I think there is something behind Treasongate that is much worse than their wanting to "punish" a dissenting ex-diplomat for his opinion piece. Of course the Iraq war itself is much worse, but we all know about that. My guess: A secret plot to PLANT WMDs in Iraq, to be "found" by Judith Miller. Not just lies, but naked deceit in a very concrete form. I think that's why Plame was outed. I think that's why David Kelly (Brits chief WMD expert) was killed four days after Plame was outed. I think they foiled the plot--or knew enough about it to be very dangerous to the Bush regime.

Treasongate is the coverup of the coverup. The cover story of Rovian revenge in punishing Wilson for his article was a coverup of Bush Cartel revenge against the CIA for CIA foiling their nasty scheme to plant WMDs in Iraq. They had set Wilson up--with Niger wild goose chase, based on forged docs--to discredit the CIA when the phony, planted WMDs were "found." David Kelly found out about it through his contacts in Iraq. He did not intend to reveal the worst, but he had been whistleblowing anonymously to the BBC about "sexed up" Iraq WMD intel. He was mysteriously outed to his bosses, and interrogated, and Tony Blair was informed, on July 7, 2003 (seven days before the Plame outing) that Kelly "could say some uncomfortable things"--could say, not HAD said. After Kelly's highly suspicious death, on July 17, 2003, and his office and computers were searched, Novak then, on July 22, outed the CIA's entire WMD monitoring project (Brewster Jennings), very likely getting some of its network of covert contacts killed, and disabling all projects.

I think the Bushites were acting in a panic--to disable, silence, punish and finish off the CIA--after Tony Blair warned them (July 7) that Kelly knew about their WMD-planting scheme, and that the CIA had something to do with foiling it. During that week--July 7-14, 2003--they contacted at least SIX reporters (journalist witnesses to treason), and did other things that put many top Bushites at great risk of treason charges. A rush, a panic, to get her outed and get that operation shut down NOW. A panic and a rage--but not Rove's (a mere operative). Cheney's. Their master plan for justifying Iraq, and for discrediting the CIA, foiled, destroyed. And they would be backfilling, and lying, and covering up forever more.

Anyway, that's my theory of Treasongate. I think it went far beyond violating the Espionage Act. And I think that's why Judith Miller (whom I suspect of being thick in the middle of both outings--Plame and Kelly--and of the weapons planting plot itself) wanted to limit her testimony to the Grand Jury, to conversations with Libby.

His "aspens" letter to her is interesting in this respect. He says he he wants her to testify--and has all along (uh-huh). He assures her that the "aspens"--the real coverup?--is deeply rooted (they are protected from the worst?) ("they turn in clusters because their roots connect them"). He may have also signaled that he is the one taking the fall, and he's doing it willingly. ("You went to jail in the summer. It is fall now....Out West, where you vacation...." = I am now going to take the fall, in jail, like you, i.e., where you have been "vacationing"--out of the loop, in the wilderness?)

But then he assures her that "suicide bombers, biological threats and the Iranian nuclear program" WILL BE news (that she should "come back to work--and life" to report on). Meaning? They now have a plan for major distractions from the GJ indictments? That certainly sends ice chills through one's soul. A major epidemic here, nukings in the Middle East, more bombings--and who would care about violations of the Espionage Act, or bother to investigate it further?

Or it could also mean that the threat to HER life has been put in abeyance, and that "business as usual" has been restored. The threats, the deals, the AWOLs, the blackmailings, the fall guys, the limitations of the investigation, etc., have all been settled. And you can go back to your job at the NYT, spreading our lies. (Or, we have lined up a similar job for you elsewhere.)

Makes me think Cheney will be an "unindicted co-conspirator," and will resign to prevent any (is it even conceivable?) Congressional investigation. Libby will do time (waived a Bush pardon to protect Cheney and the Cartel). Rove? Dunno. Probably in on the deal for Libby to take the fall. Somebody has said that Bush can't pardon Rove. I don't know what the arguments are for that. But it sure looks to me like Rove negotiated a pardon or SOMETHING (during Katrina). His "lost email" may exonerate him and point to Libby (all agreed upon). Bush Jr. will get off scott free. So will Rumsfeld, probably (who personally signed Judith Miller's "embed" contract to "hunt" for WMDs in Iraq, that they all knew weren't there). Rumor has it that Rumsfeld will resign soon. ("Mission accomplished!"--billions and billions and billions of dollars stuffed into the pockets of his and Cheney's friends; the US military shattered and in disarray; the UCMJ in tatters; everything in the hands of private interests and mercenaries.)

As for the future, the Republicans really have nothing to worry about. They have Diebold's and ES&S's "TRADE SECRET," PROPRIETARY programming code in all the new electronic voting systems to fall back on, unless the American people decide to throw these election theft machines into 'Boston Harbor,' which I sincerely hope and pray we do.

We may have David Kelly and the "good CIA" to thank for that opportunity. (Can you imagine what it would be like now, politically, if they had SUCCEEDED in planting WMDs in Iraq?)
