MIAMI — Rep. Katherine Harris said she will “not own anything” after spending $10 million of her personal inheritance to fund her U.S. Senate campaign.
Harris announced last week that she planned to spend money she inherited after her father’s death in January on her campaign. She talked about that decision on ABC News’ “Nightline” program Tuesday night.
“My husband has real estate but I will not own anything,” Harris said. “I am willing to put everything on the line. I am willing to take this widow’s mite, this pearl of great price and put everything on the line.”
Before Harris’ March 15 announcement that she would spend her own money on her campaign, there were rumors that she would withdraw from the race after her name was associated with a defense contractor who bribed another congressman.
