for anyone who thinks meaningless gestures like putting your hand over your heart for the national anthem constitute support for the troops, or moreover, for anyone who feels that if you don't make such gestures, you don't support the troops. For that matter, I'm still waiting for a reasonable definition of the phrase "support the troops." Do you have one?
I don't recite the pledge of allegiance, or sing the national anthem, or wear a flag pin, or drive around with an insipid slogan on a magnet on my car. I do, on the other hand, speak out frequently and spend long hours during the election cycle working for candidates who understand what it really means to support your country and your community.
When someone comes up with a pledge of allegiance to the Constitution of the United States (kind of like the oath of office required of our elected officials), you can sign me up to recite that sucker every morning.
