Two things:

Remember the week before he suspended..... there was a threatening letter sent out by the national head of the Chamber of Commerce. It was unmistakeably a threat.

Did you see his suspending speech? Here is a man who is so smooth on his feet. Twenty years as a trial lawyer, knows how to size up juries, so he speaks very well in crowds. Well, he was stammering, stuttering, looking tense --very unlike the John Edwards we have seen for so long now.

No, there was much more to it.

We'll probably never know.
