White House is trying to ensure smooth transition for Obama, he tells VMI cadets

Vice President Dick Cheney said yesterday that terrorists remain a strategic threat to this country, more than seven years after they struck the United States.

Speaking to the Corps of Cadets at Virginia Military Institute, Cheney said he and President Bush are trying to ensure "a smooth and graceful transition to power" for President-elect Barack Obama and Vice President-elect Joseph R. Biden Jr. "as they take up the duty of protecting America."

Obama will meet with Bush at the White House tomorrow.

...

"In the struggle at hand, the stakes remain high, but I am confident of the outcome," Cheney said. "Those who hate America are no match for those who love America."

Americans never gave in during the 20th century to dictators, Communists, Fascists and other evils, he continued.

"In the great struggle of the early 21st century, we will never give in to the jihadists," he declared. "We will oppose and confront them until we defeat them."
