Bujumbura - At least 21 people died in three days of fighting in a suburb near Burundi's capital between the last remaining Hutu rebel group and the army, military and local officials said on Saturday.
Calm returned to Kabezi district south of the capital on Saturday for the first time since Tuesday, when the army attacked rebels of the Forces for National Liberation (FNL) in an effort to dislodge them from a stronghold.
At least 27 000 civilians fled, moving into nearby villages in Kabezi district or taking refuge in local churches.
