David Segal Ran As Libertarian Candidate For U.S. Senate Seat

POSTED: 6:24 am MDT September 20, 2004

LONGMONT, Colo. -- A pizza delivery man crushed by his own car after it became stuck on some small trees was a former Libertarian Party candidate for the U.S. Senate.

David Segal, 57, died late Thursday while delivering a pizza in the Conifer area. He had backed into a driveway and tried to turn around but became stuck on small trees and tree stumps, Colorado State Patrol spokesman Ron Watkins said.

Segal got out of his Subaru station wagon and laid down on the ground to try to free the vehicle, but it broke free and crushed him.

An employee of the Domino's Pizza restaurant where Segal worked reported him missing about 11 p.m. Thursday, but deputies with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department could not locate him.
