It came up again in a conversation with a friend that I visited in Orlando today. He told me he got $1400.00. His neighborhood was barely touched. I got $457.00. I had about two thousand in outlays. I was very lucky, in that my roof stayed together and the flooding actually stopped at the sandbags. Most of my neighbors lost their rooves. We were hit pretty hard. He got a new generator and a bunch of new tools. He said his electric was off for one hour. I did buy a reliable driver for $245 and about $200 worth of plywood. Lost a shed and the back fence. Our electric was off for about a day and half the first hurricane, then 26 hours the second hurricane. We lost all of our food, two refrigerators full, twice. We had to evacuate, no plumbing.

Anyway they were GIVING THE MONEY AWAY. I should have bought a generator but had misgivings about it. I don't understand why we only got $457 but they didn't ask for any documentation. I was happy my home was still there and no one I knew was hurt. Everybody at work was talking about how to get as much money as possible. One of the bush objectives was to quell the huge discontent over the huge multiple deductibles applied to hurricane damage by the republican changes to insurance laws. This was a sore point that they tried to distance themselves from by giving money away.
