We went to visit my mom and stepfather this weekend. It was like walking into a FOX news echo chamber. I am at my mom's right now taking care of family business (my brother if you don't know about that already), so I figured I would take a break and relate this story.
Hoo-boy are they buying the W LIE wholesale. My stepfather is a really nice guy, business guy - as he worked and my wife works in retail at a management level they talk about that- he is a "dixiecrat"- he was a Dem but switched during the 60's and contributes to the Reagan library. Like I said, great guy (and NOT a racist) but he totally bought into IT. My mother should know better. She is very bright and usually inquisitive (librarian) but she kept saying things that came straight off Fox News.
She said that (gasp) "Kerry owns 7 homes....not one worth less than $1.5 million..." So I said "So what he is rich. He comes from a rich New England family like the Bushes". Both of them nodded as they knew that it was true. She had sent me one of those RW e-mails (Kerry disrespecting the pilot) and I used that to send out replies about all sorts of W facts and news that isn't repeated over and over and over. Apparently some of the people getting those e-mials were VERY upset about them. F them, but since my mother asked I will stop. These were mostly middle of the road (but Repub voting) regular folks. I did get two positve responses out of the 12-15 names (one briefly became a DU'er and the other called W an "SOB"-my grandfather's sister).
We had a full course blow out discussion on Sunday and I explained the BIG LIE to them and let them know that they need to find outlets other than Fox News to be truly informed. My stepfather laughed when I said that I watched the BBC news but my mother seemed at least interested. We'll see. There is only one Kerry vote possible in that house.
