Shouldn't there be pressure on him to change parties?

The people in my Congressional District kept reelecting a very nice Repub who often voted with Dems. FINALLY, we liberal Dems understood that although she often voted the way we wanted, she ALWAYS voted for the Repubs to lead the House. (She would also vote with the Repubs against our interests if the vote was close and the Repubs needed her vote to pass a bill.)

I think Rhode Island would elect a Dem senator because Dems represent the interests of Rhode Islanders better than Repubs.

It's time for Chafee to come over to the good side or to face a strong Dem challenger.
