Seriously, though, you know that's the stance they take. Yeah, okay, mistakes were made. Bad things happened. But it was in our ignorant past. We'd never engage in this kind of thing now that we are so much more enlightened.

What really bothers me is the crap they *admit* to, because you know whatever actually comes to light is just the tip of the iceberg and we've got even more heinous crap in our history.

<rant>You know, if you were to remove the particulars about this kind of atrocity (and all of those our brave DU members catalogue), make it generic, and present it to people today, no one would ever believe that humans were capable of such things. They'd scoff.

It's not even a conditional statement. They *do* scoff, right here at DU. You can only whisper about mind control or pedophilia in high places here, or you get locked or labeled a conspiracy nut. Because, I guess, *nobody* in our government would do *that*. (I suppose, too, that because many of the people who track these things are somewhat distasteful themselves in their politics, that makes it verboten here). </rant>
