Here's what I came up with at home, the night before the protest.

I listed the casualty figures, then the war cost so far, and the $300 billion estimated cost -- and the Halliburton profits. Then ...

"Immunize the world's children, 20 years.

PLUS 500,000 new public housing units

PLUS 4-year scholarships for 1.8 million college students"




(Actually, that all comes to less than $300 billion.)


A lot of people stopped to look at my sign, and several photographed it.

I was kind of on a roll after all this, so in class today (we were talking about global income disparities) I used the war costs so far, and the 20-year immunization thing again (it comes to about $116 billion as I recall) -- actually less than the combined wealth of Bill Gates, the Wal-Mart lady, and that Buffett investor guy. (And they have more than the 48 poorest countries.)
