Man, just a few years ago, it looked like the gays were going to be able to wedge the door open. In my community, there was so much hopefulness that they would soften the way so that we could also get recognition. Now, it seems they are further away from that now than they were twenty years ago. That probably means my community won't gain recognition and equal rights any time in my life.

Oh well, I wasn't holding my breath for that one.

I wish I could remember which right wing moron it was that said we couldn't grant gays equal rights because then polygamists (wrong word actually, but you can't expect bigots to keep up) would want them. My community got quite a chuckle out of that one. Truer words have rarely been spoken (and from a rabid rightwinger no less!).
