I've taught middle school kids, and let me tell you with this Alice In Wonderland criteria, more than 85% of the kids could be diagnosed as "having something wrong" with them. It's their age and culture. They do speak out of turn, they are rude, they are loud. And as a teacher, you expect it and you play the hand you're dealt.
I myself was a "defiant" and "oppositional" personality before, during, and after junior high school years, but I simply did not suffer fools gladly and called anyone on it, no matter their authority or position. My father was at wits end as I had an argument against what I considered bad logic. I would have been compulsively enrolled in the mental health/drug program mentioned in the article in the main post under these circumstances.
Aside from the obvious horror of this science fiction, having a regular cocktail of mind-alterring drugs will permanently damage the brain circuitry, not be regenerated after they are halted.
And it's so hypocritical: you can be arrested, convicted, and imprisoned for independently possessing and taking mind-altering drugs if they are illegal (controlled substances), but under this program, you have no right to defer.
