NBC the new 700 club??

I may be off base, but isn't the "N" in NBC supposed to stand for National and not New Testament?? With the on slot of "rapture" oriented shows this network is offering, it’s easy to see where one might get confused.

I know... I know... the “end of days” plot line is only a programming trend, and I can turn the channel if I want... but here's the thing I’ve noticed: programming trends will not end until every single network beats it to death like the proverbial horse. Let's take tonight's line-up for example (courtesy of: www.nbc.com):

“DATELINE NBC”:
Dateline's John Larson reports on a real-life exorcism and snake handlers caught up in a religious fervor.

And then stay tuned for...

“REVALATIONS”
Dr. Massey and Sister Jo’s Search for the Miracle Child takes them to Rome! Let the wacky, spirited Hijinx begin!

Okay, I wrote that last "hijinx" bit... and I don't mean to bemoan anyone's faith or kill anyone’s “Rapture” buzz, but how much "Must repent TV" do we need to be subject to? I know some of you are thinking, "It's just a show based out of an idea in the Bible - what's the big deal?" Well, if you look on the “Revelations” web site (http://www.nbc.com/Revelations//) you’ll be prompted to take the following poll:

One gets to Heaven via:
a) any religion
b) being good
c) Jesus Christ
d) there’s no heaven

As innocent as this poll may seem, I just have to wonder what NBC is trying to confirm or measure with this sampling. If the poll finds that 67% of those participating think that you get to heaven because of Jesus, will that effect what sort of programs that they’ll air? Is this a sign of things to com? Is this the beginning of the “end of days” in terms of “Must see TV”?

If we are getting polled to see where religion fits into our lives and how they can copiously insert the effects of Evangelical Fury into their programming, don’t be too surprised when you see a variation on the following story line in the not so distant future:

On “JOEY”:
Watch how Gina (Drea Matteo) reacts when her Pharmacist refuses to fill her birth control prescription! Join her in this fun filled romp from drug store to drug store as Pharmacist after Pharmacist continue to discern and deride her moral character based on her alleged “right to choose”! Watch her frustration when Joey’s prescription of Viagra gets rushed right through. Ah Gina… you silly, selfish, Hussy!

Am I over reacting? Maybe… but between the "Popeappalooza", and the non-stop 24 hour Cable News networks spewing nothing but how the Liberals are making life for the Evangelical Right a living hell on earth, and every major TV Network jumping on the "Ole Time Religion" bandwagon, I would just like to get through one night of TV without some pious blowhard telling me I'm the Devil.
