75. Oh my
"Is Repubs' support for Arnold absolute proof of their lack of principle?"

The Republicans will vote for virtually ANYONE with an R after his or her name who has a chance to knock off Davis. They'd rather vote for a die-hard conservative Republican, but they might have learned that such a candidate won't fly in California at the moment.

Republican voters are being pragmatic. That's called smart politics.

How is what the GOP is doing in supporting Arnold any different than many Democrats beating the Wesley Clark drum before they even had any idea what he actually thinks about virtually anything?

The motto "anyone but Bush" means precisely that. So long as Bush looks difficult to beat, many Democrats will flock to anyone with a D after his or her name that might have a chance of removing Bush from the White House. Sure, they'd rather have a commited liberal, but if they sense that sort of candidate isn't electable they will happily support someone they know little to nothing about. You know it, I know it, and I'd bet most people here know it to. The Republicans are doing the same exact thing in California. Only for them, it's "anyone but Davis".

I can't blame them. I'd probably do the same. I am not a Wesley Clark fan, but if I thought he was the only Democrat that could win, well I'd be on the Clark bandwagon in a heartbeat. That is not a lack of principle, it's smart politics.
