If you go back and read this thread, you can find a good reason to avoid nearly every major insurance carrier.
I buy insurance (and just about everything) based on the customer service I get. State Farm has been good to us for 30 years. We have a great agent. When I call, he takes care of me. He makes sure our claims are paid. He finds the best rates possible for us. I am also smart enough to realize that my agent is not responsible for the political decisions State Farm makes. And if I was bothered enough about these political decisions, and I called my agent, I am sure he would be glad to discuss my concerns with me.
As passionate as I am about politics, I cannot let my personal politics run every facet of my life. I live in red state hell. I am bound to be doing business with Republicans at some point whether I realize it or not. I don't honestly have time to do a political background check on every business I give my money to. I also am not entirely convinced that boycotts of this type are effective anyway.
I try to be a responsible citizen and a good liberal Democrat by doing good works. That has a positive powerful effect. Refusing to spend my money on certain businesses is merely giving lip service to the problem, IMO.
