There is no long chain of command to unravel here (see Wilson, Niger, Plame) - it is what it is, an outright bold-faced lie. THIS is the type of stuff that middle America can get its hands on and run with - it is the $600 hammer type of thing that resonates so well (sad to say).

Unmask the liar in two easy steps:

1) Listen to him lie
2) Have a military official prove it
