Just got a message from a friend about a warranty with Black & Decker...

Can anyone confirm if this is true?

I have to tell you about my morning yesterday.....it was a true Monday!
In the morning it is all I can do to get out of bed and make it to the coffee pot to push the start button (I set it up the night before). Well yesterday I get to the pot and push the button and NOTHING! Then I realize the clock isn't lit and I thought the electricity was off. I looked around and realized right away the we had juice so I pressed the button a couple more times (I was half asleep remember). Then I moved the pot to another outlet, thinking maybe something had gone wrong with that outlet (this happened pften at our old house) but it still didn't work. In desperation I took the basket and filter out, placed it in a canning funnel, plpaced the funnel over the pot and poured boiling water over it to get a couple cups of coffee.
I remembered that the pot (Black and Decker Smart Brew) had a one year warranty and I have had it only 3 1/2 months. I got out the booklet it came with and called Black and Decker. After giving them the info, they informed me that it was out of warranty!!!!! I said hell no....I have only owned it 3 1/2 months. They said (get this!) "The warranty STARTS when the store takes receipt of the item, NOT when you purchase it! I told them that in my 53 years of being a consumer I have never heard anything like that! I was informed that this is the law and they have nothing they can do but uphold it! End of call. My Irish was boiling over to say the least. I sent an email to Black and Decker on their website and sent a complaint to BBB on the net also. So be careful if you decide to buy anything from Black and Decker other than tools!
By the way, I had called them when I got the pot because the box said it included a permanent coffee filter. Upon opening the box we found no filter so I called to see about it and was told that that model doesn't come with a filter even though there were 3 stickers on the box saying otherwise!
