This is from a little local publication I read:
Liberal neighborhood vs. neo-con neighborhood
Housing:
lib - Well maintained older, modest homes & apartments, which serve living purposes. neo-con - Huge cookie-cutter McMansions with everything having a homogeneous appearance.
The people:
lib - Culturally diverse, friendly & tight-knit for the most part. Gay couples are able to freely walk down the street hand-in-hand without harassment. neo-con - Completely lacking of diversity, fear of minorities and homophobia runs rampant. Most people only care about their investment portfolios and golf scores.
Shopping:
lib - Small, family owned shops & businesses thrive here. Shops are very diverse and you'll find great bookstores, art stores, and organic food markets. You'll find vintage clothing stores with great deals. neo-con - Wal-Mart and Home Depot rule here. As far as shopping goes, most stores feature status items that are out of reach of most people eg. Prada, Gucchi, Coach, Louis Vuitton, etc.
Dining out:
lib - Small coffeehouses and ethnic restaurants featuring mid-eastern, mediterranean, and asian cuisine thrive here. Food choices are generally pretty healthy. neo-con - McDonald's is a favorite here. For a nice dinner, you'll be going somewhere a 6 oz. (small) filet mignon costs $55.
Religion:
lib - All faiths are welcome. You'll find anything from Jewish temples, Hindu temples, Scientology congregations to Christian churches. Wiccans and paganists are welcome. neo-con - Put it this way, if you don't believe in Jesus, you're going straight to hell.
Transportation:
lib - Most people walk or bike through the neighborhood to get places when it's nice out. People here for the most part own modest, fuel-efficient automobiles. neo-con - People don't walk very much because suburban sprawl has things spread apart so far. Most people drive large luxury SUV's that get horrendous gas mileage.
Leisure activities:
lib - Poetry readings, skateboarding, hackey-sack, participating in community service projects, etc. neo-con - Golf, and hanging around the country club bad-mouthing Democrats.
I know a lot of these are generalizations, but they seem kinda accurate from what I've seen around here. Oh well, throw in any comments or additional comparisons you'd like.
