I have never heard the full story on what she actually did or didn't do. I've only heard different versions that range from her simply singing a song and inadvertently sitting on the gun (her version in the book, heard on NPR) to her actively engaging in various PR stunts for the Vietcong.

Does anyone have a link to an IMPARTIAL account of what she actually did?
