Uhm...yes...sure...well…maybe
To Americans not familiar with the quirks of German (and European) Showbiz: There is an annual European event, the Grand Prix d' Eurovision de la Chanson (the European Pop/Folk contest) drawing huge numbers of viewers. It's probably the worst day to watch German TV, but it's popular. That brings me to the second worst day to watch German TV: the nomination/election of the German candidate(s) for the Grand Prix. In the 90s the Germans had the habit of nominating the wackiest, strangest and arguably worst singer/one-hit-wonder available (they still nominate the worst singer; the wacky part has changed).
Enter: Guildo Horn.
A man with a receding hair (receded actually), orthopaedic socks and a taste for the German pastry "Nußecken" won the nomination with the Smash-Hit "Piep, Piep, Piep, Guildo hat Euch lieb" ("Piep, Piep, Piep, Guildo loves you") in 1998. (He was backed by a popular comedy show moderated by his songwriter).
