I've only ever read "Guns, Germs and Steel", but I really enjoyed it (I think there are a few problems with what/where he chooses as a jumping off point and why, but he had to start somewhere). I guess I shouldn't be surprised - In my experience all of the artists I've met who I admire were just the nicest most charming people in the world (Charlemagne Palestine was by far the weirdest, but still nice).
