I was out walking "laps" up and down the road of our trailer park and I kept hearing this very loud bird. At first I thought it was a crow call I had never heard before. Then I thought it might be a rooster or goose. That was when it walked out from between two trailers...
A peacock. A PEACOCK! In freakin' Maine! The kids and I went to get a closer look at him, but he took off and crossed the main road. Fortunately he didn't get hit but you should have seen the face of the lady who had to stop for him. She pulled up alongside us and said, "Was that a peacock?!" LOL
Some of you may remember Mr. and Mrs. Cluck, the chickens who took over the trailer park for a week a few years ago. They had been dumped in the nearby nature area. The kids and I ran down to the neighbor's who owns some chickens herself,(just like we did last time we had odd birds in the trailer park) but no she was not missing a large male peacock.
Anyway, I called the town office and asked if anyone had reported him missing and would they let our animal guy know? Thing is, I am not sure if anyone came to look for him. If a car doesn't get him a coyote probably will. :( I always hate this sort of thing. I see an animal wandering around and I just spend the rest of the day agonizing over whether or not it will be ok.
This has to be someone's rather expensive pet. I hope they are out looking for him and find him!
