They all have their own little personalities. However, when one is lost, if you have others, they'll at least somewhat fill the hole. You'll still mourn and be totally heartbroken, but if you already have young'un in the house, your routine stays the same, and in our case, the young'un realizes they have a responsibility to help out. When our old pug was put to sleep, we brought her home, unwrapped her body, and let Beulah sniff, and she seemed to really get it. She was very subdued and more affectionate than usual for several days.
If I could do my life over again, one of my passions would be to study cat or dog psychology (I majored in human psychology, but it was pretty boring).
