I found the profile interesting because it paints a picture of somebody who wasn't really a political person at all, but just wanted to be good at his job (serving the country). I know it's hard for some people here on DU to understand, but not everybody spent their youth glued to the political debates of the day. They were busy with other stuff. The diff. between Bush and Clark is what that other stuff was (screwing up his life, but getting bailed out vs. working hard as a professional soldier).
And I'm ashamed to say it, but when I was very little I liked Reagan too. He had that Santa Claus/I'll beat the evil commies image down pretty well...which is weird because he wasn't a very good actor! Good enough I guess. It didn't help that the movies always made the Soviets sooo scary looking. As for Clark's Nixon vote, Bob Kerrey and alot of others who were young and patriotic and worried about fighting communism voted for him too. What's important is that Clark's a wiser person today and understands the serious downsides of those administrations (he's compared the scheming and deceitful tactics of the Bush admin. to Nixon's).
