John Kerry Supporters Rescue Kerry Staffers Stranded in Elevator
Advertisements [?]
From Kerry's blog...

The celebration ended early, however, when the building’s elevator became stuck near the top floor—with all three Kerry staffers and ten local residents inside. The group tried to remain calm as Todd Campbell—his second day on the Kerry campaign—tried to pry the elevator doors open, and staff member Pete Slutsky tried to ignore his existing phobia of elevators. Other members of the stranded group, including a local family of four and an elderly woman requiring an oxygen tank, fought to overcome panic. Always focused, the campaign staff tried to use the time to chat with the Sioux City residents about the upcoming caucus.

The group was stuck in the elevator for nearly twenty minutes until they were serendipitously rescued by Tom Everett, Gary Heath and Chuck Heinrichson—John Kerry supporters and members of the Sioux City Fire Department, Station 1, who had just the day before opened the letter announcing the International Association of Fire Fighters’ endorsement of John Kerry for President. What a remarkable moment for the John Kerry campaign. Everyone in the elevator was released safely, and the Kerry staff promised to stay in touch with their fellow survivors as caucus night quickly approaches. Tonight, the John Kerry campaign has another reason to be thankful for America’s heroic fire fighters.

Scary stuff, but a good story to look back on.
