6. Fitzgerald's background is

the son of a doorman in NY. He was a doorman during the summers. He probably doesn't really like abuse of power by privilege. Being a doorman let him know which of the elites were honest and nice and respected him. It probably also showed him the bad side of these people and the ones who looked down their nose and him. I suspect he thinks this clan is the latter.
